Here is a brief timeline of the history of Journal Square:
- Journal Square was established in 1923 when the city demolished the offices of the Jersey Journal. This created a broad intersection with Hudson Boulevard (now known as Kennedy Boulevard). The newspaper made a new headquarters and the square was named in honor of it.
- From there, Journal Square evolved and became the cultural entertainment capital of Hudson County.
- Now, Journal Square is a residential area, business district, and transportation hub. It is also the home of The Square Pharmacy.
